Loyal, caring, and motivated. Characteristics I obtained growing up as the youngest of three, and only girl. Following the lead of my older brothers, I learned to care and show compassion for others. Seeing them be leaders in the classroom and on the sports fields, motivated me to do the same. Their peers trusted them, as their captains and friends. I wanted to create those same bonds with those around me. I was a dedicated student athlete, with a strong interest in the arts, through dance and writing. My passions, led me to pursue a career in journalism, writing and telling not only mine, but other people’s stories. I have always been eager to meet new people, and this career path lets me do just that. Although I thoroughly enjoy reporting on news, I began to miss my love for sports that seemed to fade once I graduated high school, so I became a member of Penn State’s Curley Center for Sports Journalism.
Using what I have learned growing up, and what I continue to learn in school, I intend to be the television personality that people can trust. My background as a multisport captain, has let me flourish into a natural born leader, like my brothers. This is a characteristic I will bring to the anchor desk. I will make it a main focus that the community in which I cover, knows I am a respectable, loyal, and compassionate individual. My goal is to be the reason people turn on the television. To hear the latest breaking news from me first. To see from me, what is going on in their community. To see me in public and feel welcomed to come up and chat with me, as I will have become a trusted familiar face in their home through the television. My name is Courtney Guiry, my mission is to be the person people need and want to turn to for news, and I cannot wait to make this dream a reality.
